West Ham make offer to beat Tottenham to major midfield signing
West Ham have made an approach to sign a former Manchester United academy product ahead of the summer transfer window.
Two Premier League games remain for West Ham this season, starting with the clash against Champions League hopefuls Nottingham Forest, though plenty of their focus will already be elsewhere.
Given that they have nothing material left to play for, the Irons will already be hard at work behind the scenes to ensure they are prepared for all eventualities when the summer transfer window opens.
Several players have already been linked with a move to the London Stadium, and the Hammers have made an approach to sign one of them, with hopes of beating Tottenham to his signature.

Angel Gomes subject of approach from West Ham
Angel Gomes was heavily linked with a move to West Ham throughout the winter transfer window, but the former Man United academy prospect remained in France with Lille instead.
However, his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit is due to expire at the end of the current campaign, and according to a report from the print edition of the Sunday Mirror (18 May, pg 68), the Irons have already submitted an offer to secure his services next season.
Lille | Games | Goals | Assists |
Gomes | 20 | 2 | 1 |
Gomes is said to be keen on assessing his options before sanctioning a move, with Tottenham and Marseille also interested in signing the midfielder.
Given his ability and versatility, it would be a shrewd piece of business for the Hammers, but one they will need to stick with if they are to beat others to his signature.

Graham Potter’s future must be decided first at West Ham
Recruitment at the London Stadium is going to be crucial to their hopes of avoiding a repeat of this campaign’s shortcomings, but those plans simply cannot be fully put into place until the future of Graham Potter is decided.
Somehow, the Irons have regressed under his stewardship, and there are already doubts over whether Potter is the man to take them forward.
However, as soon as that decision is made, West Ham need to back whoever is in the dugout, and Gomes would be an excellent start to the summer business.
