West Ham lose to Nottingham Forest in race to sign Stuttgart midfielder Orel Mangala
West Ham have reportedly lost the transfer battle to Nottingham Forest to sign Stuttgart midfielder Orel Mangala.
According to the Daily Mail, the 24-year-old is due for his medical today, July 26, before he can officially be unveiled as a Forest player.
The Belgium international will be signing a four-year deal and is set to move to the newly-promoted side for a £12.75million fee.
The Hammers are desperate to sign another midfielder despite the arrival of Flynn Downes.
They had identified Mangala as one of the options to bolster the side in the middle of the park, given Tomas Soucek’s uncertain future at the club.
However, they will be missing out on his services and he could come back to haunt them as this was a transfer that they could’ve gotten over the line had they wanted to.
The 24-year-old is a holding midfielder who’s got two caps under his belt for Belgium and will be a terrific addition to Forest.
He appears tailor-made to the defensive midfield role in the Premier League and it’s important that the Hammers also sign someone in that area of the pitch.
This will allow Declan Rice to venture further forward as he did last season and would give the midfield balance and that will be imperative for the attacking players to flourish.
