West Ham legend a surprise candidate to replace Graham Potter following manager update
Graham Potter has had a torrid nine months at West Ham, which could be coming to an end.
West Ham vice chairman Karren Brady was full of praise for Potter when he first joined, and the Hammers’ hierarchy had hopes of him bringing success back to East London.
However, after less than a year in charge, the 50-year-old has amassed a points per game average of one and a win percentage of 28 per cent, which ranks him as the worst manager in the Hammers’ history.
West Ham have been lining up replacements for Potter, who is expected to depart the London Stadium in the next few weeks.

Scott Parker lined up by West Ham to replace Graham Potter
David Sullivan has been blasted by West Ham fans for his lack of forward thinking in the last 18 months, which has prompted protests from supporters.
The Welsh businessman appears to be taking his time over a decision to sack Potter, and could delay the 50-year-old’s departure until the October international break.
Nuno Espirito Santos had been lined up by West Ham, with the former Nottingham Forest boss currently out of a job.
However, the Irons currently look set to miss the boat for the Portuguese manager, with his wage demands too high.
- Parker is the latest to be targeted by the Hammers
- West Ham have also previously identified Gary O’Neil, Sean Dyche, and Kieran McKenna as options
- Slaven Bilic currently appears to be one of the more likely options, as he is open to a short-term deal
According to GiveMeSport [23 September], former West Ham midfielder Scott Parker has been identified as a candidate to replace Potter.
The Burnley boss has had differing success in his managerial spells, achieving promotion to the Premier League with Bournemouth and Fulham before being sacked due to poor form in the top-flight.
Parker’s side currently sits 16th in the Premier League, with just one win and one draw.
He guided the claret and blue side to 100 points in the Championship last season, and faces a tough task keeping Burnley up.
Scott Parker’s West Ham achievements
Parker is widely recognised as a legend in East London.
During his time at Upton Park, the midfielder won Hammer of the Year (supporters’ Player of the Season) three seasons in a row, becoming the second player to do so after Trevor Brooking.
Parker became known for his leadership on and off the pitch for West Ham, and was voted the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year in 2011.
During his time in East London, he bagged 12 goals in 129 appearances and was recently included in West Ham’s list of 50 Greatest Hammers.
