West Ham leading race for Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi ahead of deadline
West Ham United are favourites to complete a deadline day move for Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi, according to Record.
The Hammers and Brighton have both made approaches to sign the 24-year-old Nigerian international in recent days, but the Seagulls are unable to get a deal done today, leaving West Ham in front of the queue.
The London Stadium outfit have kept tabs on Sanusi for weeks and have recently signalled an intention to formalise a proposal.
As a result, Porto believe a deal can be sealed in the coming hours.
Deal on the cards?
West Ham appear keen on strengthening at left-back before the window shuts and have already been linked with two players in the position – Ajax ace Nicolas Tagliafico and his Porto counterpart – within the last 24 hours, and a move for the latter could be on the cards.
Aaron Cresswell remains manager David Moyes first-choice, but the Englishman needs a quality cover and competition, and Arthus Masuaku is struggling to provide him with any of that due to his injury woes.
With a lot of games ahead of the Irons this season, landing a new left-back would come in handy, and Sanusi could be perfect for the job.
The West African full-back is known for his crossing abilities, strength and ability to actually defend – something most players in his position struggle with nowadays – and he has already established himself as a starter for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
There is little time left in the transfer window, and the Hammers would need to quickly move if they are to get this one over the line before 11 pm.
In other West Ham news, international ace is unlikely to complete Hammers move due to family reasons.
