West Ham keen on signing Montpellier striker Gaetan Laborde

West Ham are in the hunt to sign Montpellier forward Gaetan Laborde this summer, according to French media outlet Foot Mercato.

The report claims that Rennes are also keen on signing the 27-year-old and Montpellier will not look to retain his services in case a suitable offer is tabled for the Frenchman.

The London outfit have looked to sign a striker all summer, and Laborde is understood to be one of the names on their transfer list.

Their reporter Santi Aouna wrote, via his personal Twitter account, “Rennes and West Ham think of Gaetan Laborde. The attacker will not be retained in case of a suitable offer.”

Worth pursuing?

Laborde’s contract runs out in 2023 and by the looks of it, there’s not much to suggest that he’s particularly keen on extending it.

Playing for a mid-table Ligue 1 club like Montpellier for three seasons, the Frenchman surely would have dreams of taking the step up in his career but in terms of his team and the league he’ll play in week in and week out.

The lure of the Premier League could be enough to tempt him to pick us over Rennes and we must seriously look into pursuing his services in the coming days.

West Ham

In the 2020/21 campaign, Laborde bagged 18 goals and nine assists in 43 games in all competitions.

Even this season, the 27-year-old has hit the ground running, bagging two goals in as many Ligue 1 matches.

He appears to be a player that guarantees goals and if we are to sign him for £13.5million, which is his valuation on Transfermarkt, then he would prove to be a very good value for money signing.
