West Ham interested in signing Barcelona forward Memphis Depay in January
West Ham are interested in signing Barcelona striker Memphis Depay in the January window, according to Spanish outlet El Nacional.
The Netherlands international, 27, is out of favour under new boss Xavi, with the club president Joan Laporta now looking to cash in on him for around £42million (€50million).
The Hammers face stiff competition from Newcastle United for Depay’s signature, but they could have an upper hand due to their position in the table, and David Moyes could do with such a player right now and going forward.

Too expensive?
The former Manchester United forward has a lot to prove in the Premier League, and a return could be appealing.
West Ham would love to strengthen their attack, but parting with over £40million for Depay this month could prove difficult for them.
While the Dutchman impressed at Lyon, ending 2020-21 with 20 league goals and 12 assists, that he struggled at Old Trafford six seasons ago remain fresh in the memories of Premier League fans.
He has bagged eight goals and two assists in 15 league games for Barca – with their erstwhile boss Ronald Koeman dubbing him “dangerous” in August – and that appears to have caught the eyes of the Hammers.
They will need to strengthen their attack to boost their top-four chances, and landing Depay should come in handy.
However, Moyes is not huge on splashing the cash, and a loan move could be more appealing.

Barcelona will be keen on an outright sale, though, and that could give moneybags Newcastle a chance.
West Ham will be taking their time before making any major decisions this month, and they will weigh the pros and cons before launching a move for Depay.
