West Ham interest in Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard will continue until summer
West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly continue their pursuit of Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard in the summer as well.
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, he wants a return to the London Stadium but the Manchester club are unwilling to strengthen a top-four rival.
Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News recently reported that Newcastle are looking to sign the 29-year-old on loan this month.
Referencing that, Crook said, via his personal Twitter account, “Newcastle offer for Lingard revealed by @samuelluckhurst is intriguing. He’d rather go back to West Ham but #Man United cannot contemplate strengthening a top 4 rival. Surely better to go out and play rather than sit rotting? West Ham and Spurs interest will still be there in the summer.”
Lingard is closing in on 30 and he is not going to get any better with time.
Injuries start playing their toll at that age and it would’ve been nice if he was at the club this season.
However, it seems like his last window of joining West Ham was in the summer and he did not do enough to force his way out of Old Trafford.
The England international scored nine goals and provided five assists in 16 games last season for David Moyes’ side which saw TalkSport host Adrian Durham describe him as “phenomenal”.
It made a lot of sense for him to move permanently, but he decided that it would be better to fight for his spot.
Now, he finds himself in a predicament and with no way out.
A loan would be good for the Hammers until the end of the season, but it makes very little sense to sign him in the summer.
In other West Ham news, the club could ‘move early’ for an ‘Incredible’ teenager with 39 career goals
