West Ham interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca could indicate club are readying for Tomas Soucek departure

West Ham are said to be displaying an interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca – and this could be a sign that Tomas Soucek is set to leave the club.

As revealed by The Athletic on Thursday [9 June], the Hammers, along with Leeds United, are tracking the 25-year-old Spaniard.

If these reports are to be believed, then it could well spell the end of Tomas Soucek’s West Ham career.

The Guardian reported on 25 May that contract negotiations with the Czech international have reached an impasse.

With news of Hammers’ potential interest in Roca, it could be an indication of the Hammers getting ready to offload the midfielder.

Soucek has very much been a victim of his own success after his stellar start to life in English football.

He has failed to reach the same heights in the 2021-22 season despite scoring the odd vital goal here and there.

Soucek certainly looked tired and leggy towards the end of the season and there could be a suggestion that his time at the club has reached its natural conclusion.

David Moyes has always been a strong admirer of the Czech international but ultimately the Scot needs to restructure and overhaul his West Ham squad in order to get the Irons regularly competing for the top six.

It is hard to say whether Soucek is genuinely a top six Premier League player.

If the midfielder was to leave the club it would free up wage space for Moyes to utilise in the transfer market.

It would be sad to see Soucek leave, but ultimately Moyes has got to make some tough decisions this summer.

In other West Ham news, a first team player looks to be on the way out as the club hopes to fund incoming transfers.
