Report: West Ham in pole position to sign Poland striker
West Ham United appear to be back on the right track after two wins in two games since manager David Moyes returned to the club.
Those victories were against Bournemouth and Gillingham, the latter in the FA Cup, so nobody should be getting carried away just yet.
However, the initials signs of life back under the Scot appear rather positive. And so, if the club can have a positive January transfer window, they could be back in business in a big way.
To that end, the Hammers are reportedly chasing a Poland international striker. Yes, Sport Mediaset reported on Tuesday that the Irons are in pole position to sign AC Milan star Krzysztof Piatek.
The arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic back at the San Siro has convinced the former Genoa man to seek an exit.
Milan spent £29million on Piatek just last January, but after 15 goals in 39 games for the club – including only four in 18 this campaign – they appear ready to move him on.
He is now thought to be available for £27million, a price tag which the Irons are said to be most willing to pay, despite interest from Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen as well.
West Ham Zone’s View
You wonder whether the Hammers really need to be signing an out-of-form striker when there are concerns over both of the frontmen they brought in last summer.
We all expect Sebastien Haller to come good after the potential he flashed early on at the club, but Albian Ajeti would appear to be a lost cause at this point.
They probably do need another attacker, but Piatek might not be the right man. If they sign him and he gets back to his Genoa form then great, but it’s an awfully big risk.
In other West Ham news, the club are reported to be on the tail of a Gambian centre back.
