West Ham have very strong interest in Jason Knight

West Ham have a ‘very strong interest’ in Derby County midfielder Jason Knight, according to trusted club source ExWHUemployee.

The Championship outfit could offload some players due to their current financial crisis, and the Hammers are keeping tabs on the Republic of Ireland international, 20.

The highly-rated midfielder is not likely to be short of suitors, and while ExWHUemployee did not state if the Hammers are eyeing a January deal, waiting for a summer move might prove too little too late as the Rams could do with cash right now.

Derby boss Wayne Rooney is a fan of Knight’s style of play, temporarily making him captain following David Marshall’s virus infection back in January and praising for being full of energy, desire and running non-stop.

The club’s official website describes the youngster as “an energetic and all-action player, who combines his ability on the ball with his desire and determination out of possession”, and West Ham could do with such a player right now.

The Championship outfit are currently in administration at the moment and are in search of new owners.

They could be forced to sell Knight next month in order to have enough to pay wages, and the Hammers should not hesitate to swoop on him.

He has featured in 14 league games this term, scoring twice and assisting twice, and David Moyes could do with a player with such potential.

West Ham are challenging for the top-four, and joining them should attract the youngster.

Should a January move work out, Knight could come in immediately into the first-team set-up and help bolster their options in the middle of the park.
