West Ham have shown interest in Hibernian left-back Josh Doig
West Ham United are showing an interest in young Hibernian left-back Josh Doig, according to The Athletic.
Watford were initially linked with the highly-rated 19-year-old, but their pursuit is unlikely to progress at this stage, and other suitors have come in.
The Athletic reports on their website that sources close to Doig suggest West Ham and Nottingham Forest have now registered an interest in him.
Decent option
West Ham need to strengthen at left-back this summer, and we could be landing the Scottish sensation on a cheap if we make a move.
Goal journalist Chris Wheatley reported last month that Hibs have set an asking price of £5million for Doig, with Arsenal one of the clubs keen on him.
Leicester City, Manchester City and Leeds United have also been linked with the Scotland youth international [The Sun], and that goes to show what a player he is and is capable of becoming.
Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku could do with a long-term replacement and cover after the latter spent a large chunk of last season on the treatment table, and Doig has loads of potential.
West Ham could be saving millions going forward by snapping the youngster up, and the chance to develop under manager David Moyes could tempt him into agreeing to a move.
It appears we will not be splashing the cash this summer, and landing a potential future first-team star for a bargain fee could delight the Irons board.
In other West Ham news, talks underway as Hammers want to sign 27-year-old with six trophies.
