West Ham have outside chance of Kurt Zouma being fit for Frankfurt clash

West Ham United may have their best defender, Kurt Zouma, back fit for Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt.

According to Claret and Hugh, the 27-year-old “rapid recovery” from the injury that has kept him out of action since the Irons’ trip to Brentford could make him available for this week’s big game.

It is only an outside chance however and it is far more likely that he will return to the Hammers teamsheet for the return leg in Germany next week.

Zouma’s 19th minute header cancelled out Spurs’ early opener and ensured a point for West Ham.

With Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna both out for the season, Craig Dawson has been holding down the fort almost single-handedly so Zouma’s impressive recovery will be very welcomed by David Moyes.

The Frenchman could be asked to come back for the visit of Arsenal on Sunday too as Dawson will miss that game having been sent off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, causing his one-match domestic suspension.

Hallelujah

There is arguably no better news West Ham could possibly receive at this very moment and Moyes will be jumping for joy at Rush Green right now.

There is a desperate need for centre-halves for the Irons right now with the aforementioned injuries and suspension difficulties and it appears like Zouma is going to come in and save the day like a superhero.

Frankfurt will have been looking forward to exposing a makeshift backline for the Hammers with Dawson shepherding Ben Johnson and Aaron Cresswell through Sunday’s 1-0 defeat away at Chelsea.

The return of Zouma will not only allow every player in the defence to return to a more natural position but also give the attackers and midfielders more confidence in the players sat behind them.

It is often underrated how important it is that the attackers know their defenders are capable because a weak defensive team often struggle to score too as the forward players try to be cautious to not expose their leaky backline.
