West Ham have no positive COVID cases and are continuing to train ahead of Tottenham clash

West Ham have no positive COVID cases in their squad and are continuing to train as normal, according to Football.London.

The Hammers’ home Premier League fixture against Norwich City, which was set to take place tomorrow (18 December), has been postponed as the Canaries are unable to field a team.

As things stand, the next scheduled match is the League Cup quarter-final away at Tottenham Hotspur next Wednesday (22 December).

Football.London report that David Moyes is preparing his squad as usual at the club’s Rush Green training ground for that fixture and no players have tested positive for the virus.

Last week, the Scot revealed protocols have been put in place to help prevent West Ham becoming the latest club to suffer an outbreak.

He said: “We are doing everything we possibly can, we are wearing masks when we’re indoors, we are washing our hands, we are sending messages to the players regularly about what to do, so we are trying to do everything.”

Business as usual

West Ham have to treat everything as business as usual at the moment as they must presume that their fixtures are going ahead until they are told different.

The postponement of Saturday’s match against Norwich was only confirmed less than 48 hours before kickoff, which is proof that the situation can change quickly.

The game is one of five Premier League clashes called off this weekend, following three postponements in midweek.

The Premier League assess applications for games to be postponed on a case-by-case basis, but the rules are slightly different for the League Cup, as the EFL allow clubs to call off matches and they are then subject to a routine investigation.

The Hammers will have aspirations of lifting the League Cup this season, so they must continue to prepare as best they can for the quarter-final.
