West Ham handed massive Milenkovic boost – Report

West Ham United’s chances of signing Nikola Milenkovic this summer have drastically increased as the defender’s time at Fiorentina may be over.

According to Italian outlet Corriere Fiorentino, Milenkovic could leave the Serie A club this summer after they hired Gennaro Gattuso as their new manager. It’s understood the Serbian ace prefers a move to the Premier League.

West Ham have been previously been linked with the player with Calcio Meracto reporting contact has already been made about a possible summer swoop.

It’s also understood that Italian and Spanish sides are also interested in securing the 23-year-old’s services in the coming months.

Calcio Mercato have also claimed that Milenkovic could be available for £25million this summer – putting him right into West Ham’s price range.

A top defender

At 23, Milenkovic has already started to show glimpses of his brilliance and when he peaks in a few years, he will undoubtedly be one of Europe’s top centre-backs.

People like to throw away tags and comparisons these days, but having watched him play, we can say that there is some credence to the Nemanja Vidic comparisons.

Much like the former Manchester United defender, Milenkovic is an aggressive and combative centre-back and would undoubtedly at some character and fight to our defence.

Our defence, of the past few years, has often looked like a disaster waiting to happen, and signing someone like Milenkovic will go a long way in addressing that issue.

At £25m, we must not think twice before signing him. He’s proven himself over the last three seasons, and if we pass up on the opportunity to sign him, some other club would capitalise on it as he’s got an array of suitors in the wait.
