West Ham handed Connor Goldson boost amid uncertain Rangers future

West Ham could be handed a boost to secure the services of Rangers defender Connor Goldson in the January transfer window.

The Hammers will most certainly be exploring the possibilities of signing a centre-back after Angelo Ogbonna’s season ended due to an ACL injury.

While Craig Dawson has come in and they have Issa Diop also waiting in reserve, neither of the two quite offer that sort of assurance that David Moyes would want.

Football Insider reported in September that the Hammers were keeping tabs on him and that they could make a move for his services given the uncertainty surrounding his future.

The lack of clarity of the number of days he has left at the Ibrox has probably increased since Steven Gerrard’s departure and he may be keener now on leaving the club.

At 28, Goldson may fancy a place in the England setup as well and he’ll have a better chance of achieving it in the Premier League.

While speaking about his future recently, the Birmingham Mail quoted him as saying, “I haven’t really spoken to my agent or the club recently so I couldn’t tell you where it’s at. I’m just focused on the club, playing football and making sure this football club wins.”

Per that report, he is still not sure whether he wants to stay put, and with little over six months left on his current deal, time is running out for him at the club.

It seems that Gers may look to cash in on him in January, handing the Hammers a big chance of signing him for a reasonable transfer fee.

He’s someone who is quick and good in the air and would complement Kurt Zouma perfectly.

He’s also a good passer and can help Moyes’ side play out from the back with ease.

If we were Rob Newman, we would be all over the player and look to secure a bargain deal in January.
