West Ham fans won’t like what Jeff Stelling’s just said pre-Everton, but he’s spot on
West Ham travel to Everton on Monday night in the Premier League desperately needing a win.
Graham Potter is under massive pressure at West Ham after a dreadful start to the season, which has seen the Hammers drop into the bottom three.
West Ham were defeated 2-1 by Crystal Palace on Saturday at the London Stadium, continuing a run of just two home wins in 2025.
West Ham‘s trip to Everton is seen as crucial by supporters, with Nuno Espirito Santo lined up as a replacement should David Sullivan choose to sack Potter.
Jeff Stelling has done his predictions for some of this weekend’s games, and has made a statement that Hammers fans do not want to hear.

Jeff Stelling claims West Ham fans are missing David Moyes
West Ham parted company with David Moyes in 2024, after a highly successful four-and-a-half-year tenure in charge.
Hammers fans became disgruntled with the Scot towards the end of his reign at the London Stadium, with West Ham facing regular poor results in his final season in charge.
Since his departure, Moyes has returned to Everton and stabilised the Merseysiders, keeping them comfortably in the Premier League last season while giving them hope of a European push this campaign.
The Hammers, meanwhile, sacked his replacement, Julen Lopetegui, in January, and are now under the tutelage of Potter, with fans protesting against both ownership and manager.
Stelling has claimed that fans of the East London side are beginning to miss the former Manchester United boss, given the troubles they’ve faced since he left the London Stadium.
Stelling said via talkSPORT’s twitter account on 26 September: “All eyes on David Moyes for this one. Loved by Evertonians, less so by West Ham fans, though absence is making the heart grow a little fonder.”
Many West Ham fans are set in their ways and simply won’t admit to it, but there is certainly an element of truth to what Stelling says.
Appointing Graham Potter was a poor decision
Many fans thought that Potter would be out to prove himself after his disastrous spell in charge of Chelsea, but he’s somehow managed to do worse.
Potter is on course to be one of West Ham’s worst-ever managers, and cannot hold a candle to Moyes, who worked wonders in the early parts of his second spell at West Ham.
Moyes vs Potter at West Ham United | David Moyes | Graham Potter |
Wins | 112 | 6 |
Draws | 55 | 5 |
Losses | 95 | 14 |
Win ratio | 42.7% | 24% |
The Hammers needed to move on from Moyes when they did, and that decision was the right one given how bad the side were after Christmas in 2023/24.
However, the issue lies in the appointments made by David Sullivan since then, and the Hammers board now need to bite the bullet and sack Potter before its too late.
