West Ham face competition from Aston Villa for Kalvin Phillips
West Ham face competition as they try to prise Kalvin Phillips away from Leeds United according to The Sunday Times.
Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa have emerged as frontrunners for the England international and are reportedly ready to pay £60million.
It is understood that the Villans are prepared to offer Phillips an “enormous” salary which could see the midfielder earn around £10million per year.

Ludicrous
Why would Philips want to join barely mid table Aston Villa having seen how West Ham have played this season?
The Telegraph spent a lot of time focussing on the financial side of the move and the lucrative money the Midlands side are said to be offering the 26-year-old is the only reason why he would choose to join Villa.
They have looked bright since Gerrard took charge and there is an obvious long-term vision at the club, but they are miles off the Hammers.

The Irons are now an established team in Europe having played in the Europa League several times in the last few seasons and more importantly, reaching this term’s quarter finals with ease.
David Moyes’ side have also shown their quality in the Premier League as they push for the highly contested fourth spot, with a far lesser budget and resources than those around them.
Phillips can come to this team and really take them from good to great, something he might have to wait some time for at Villa Park, if it ever happens.
