West Ham eye January move for forward Rhys Healey -Dharmesh Sheth

West Ham are eyeing a move for Toulouse forward Rhys Healey, according to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth.

The 27-year-old is to be potentially brought in as a back-up for Michail Antonio, the Hammers only recognised striker.

The journeyman has impressed so far this season with Toulouse scoring being involved in 16 goals in 21 games in Ligue 2, catching the eye of the Hammers.

Sheth wrote on his personal Twitter: “West Ham remain in talks over the signing of Reims striker Hugo Ekitike.

“Another name is Toulouse forward Rhys Healey. One to provide backup in the squad.

“The 27-year-old began his career at Cardiff and had spells with Colchester, Dundee, Newport, Torquay and MK Dons.”

Journeyman

Some career Healey has had.

The first noticeable thing is the quality of the teams he has played for. He has made his way through almost every league it seems in England and now finds himself in the second division in France.

This indicates that he might not be up to Premier League level, but it would be unfair to completely write him off before he even kicks a ball for the Hammers – if he does end up signing.

Hammers will undoubtedly be underwhelmed with this news. Yes, Antonio is in desperate need of back up but how desperate are they for the club to make a regressive signing?

If the club wants to build on the momentum gained over the past few seasons, they can’t afford to make these types of signings.

Moyes has regularly spoken out against bringing in players for the sake of more bodies and this is what seems to be the case here.
