West Ham eye £20m-rated Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera

Midfielder Yangel Herrera is predicted to leave Manchester City this summer amid interest from West Ham, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports that after an “encouraging” season on loan with La Liga club Granada, the 23-year-old Venezuela international is valued at £20million.

However, the Hammers will likely have a fight on their hands to sign Herrera as Crystal Palace, Southampton, Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Villarreal have also watched the central midfielder.

Midfield depth needed

Before the summer transfer window closes, David Moyes needs to add an extra body or two to his central midfield options.

Spartak Moscow and Czech Republic midfielder Alex Kral has been strongly linked with a move to the London Stadium but Herrera does play in a similar role and is the same age.

However, Herrera has experience of playing in a top European league, while the Russian Premier Liga isn’t half as strong as La Liga.

Herrera impressed at Granada this season as he made 46 appearances in all competitons, scoring eight goals and supplying two assists in the process.

Granada reached the Europa League quarter-finals with his help before being knocked out by Manchester United.

Former Spain and Valencia striker David Villa played alongside Herrera during a two-year loan spell at MLS side New York City in 2017 and 2018 and has been a long-term admirer since.

As quoted by Marca, Villa said that Herrera is “going to be a world class player in the next few years”.

Let’s hope can reach those heights in the claret and blue of West Ham.
