West Ham extend the contract of Jamaican striker Michail Antonio

Jamaican international striker Michail Antonio has signed a West Ham contract extension to 2025, according to The Sun.

The Hammers have activated an option to extend the contract of the 31-year-old beyond 2023, while they have also entered the race for Everton’s £30million left-back Lucas Digne.

The London Stadium outfit are also looking at signing another striker as back-up for Antonio, and getting those two signings done before the end of the window would be massive for David Moyes.

Huge boost

The Hammers need to be challenging strongly for every competition heading into the second half of 2021-22, and a move for the Everton ace would be massive.

Moyes clearly needs to reinforce at left-back, and landing the France international, 28, will come in very handy with Arthur Masuaku failing to impress in the injury-enforced absence of Aaron Cresswell.

Digne can definitely give the English left-back a run for his money given his attacking abilities, but whether the Irons are indeed ready to splash £30million on a full-back remains to be seen.

They could be ready to splash the cash on a striking cover, though.

West Ham

Antonio has been very influential and crucial in recent months, but he does not have a lot of years left in him at the top of the game.

West Ham could do with a young striker that can provide with him stiff competition and also succeed him in the long-term.

Nevertheless, handing him a deal that will see him remain at the club for the next three years makes sense as he looks every inch like a late bloomer.
