West Ham early team news v Brentford as Edson Alvarez update emerges

West Ham have had an extended break after their loss against Chelsea ahead of their game against Brentford.

The Hammers welcome the Bees on Saturday (15 February) as Graham Potter hopes to get some more points under his belt after a mixed start to life in East London.

One thing the break will have provided the boss with is the time for some players to recover, boosting his squad options going into the game.

West Ham in Edson Alvarez fitness boost

Edson Alvarez missed his side’s game against Chelsea on Monday (3 February) as the Irons lost 2-1, due to suffering with a back injury.

However, according to Standard Sport (10 February), the 27-year-old has recovered and is now back in training with the Hammers.

The news outlet also reported that both Lucas Paqueta and Jean-Clair Todibo are also back in training having both spent time on the sidelines of late due to injury issues.

This means Potter should have all three players available for selection going into the game against Brentford on Saturday.

West Ham looking for three points

The Hammers have only gained one win since the arrival of Potter at The London Stadium so the boss will certainly be looking for another three points against Brentford as he looks to progress with his side.

The exit of Julen Lopetegui earlier in the season felt like something that was a long time coming but the new boss has come into a job where plenty needs doing to be able to turn the club’s fortunes around.

Due to the high amount of money that was spent in the summer transfer window, the new manager was left without too many resources during the winter window to make changes to his side.

However, a key addition was the loan signing of Evan Ferguson who joined on loan from Brighton to bolster the attack of the East London outfit going forward.

The 20-year-old will be expecting to make his debut for the Hammers against Brentford and with Jarrod Bowen also back from injury, the boss will be hoping that his increased options can help him out.

The extended break between games due to an FA Cup weekend has surely given the Irons a good period of time to gain players back from the sidelines and work hard during training sessions to try and find some cohesion in the squad.

Brentford won’t be easy opponents to face but with three players hopefully available for selection, it should increase the competition in the side and give the boss an opportunity to be adaptable to suit the game that lies ahead.
