West Ham duo Soucek and Zouma have had Covid, could miss Leeds game
Tomas Soucek and Kurt Zouma have had Covid, and could miss West Ham United’s clash against Leeds United, as per ExWHUemployee.
The reliable Hammers insider claimed on the West Ham Way Patreon while providing possible selection updates for the game at the London Stadium on Sunday (16 January).
While the French centre-back has returned to full fitness, it appears contracting the virus has handed him a very slim chance of being available for Leeds’ visit, with the Manchester United game looking more feasible.
With Mark Noble also out, being without Soucek makes the Irons thin in the middle of the park, with only Declan Rice and Alex Kral the only senior options available in the position.
The Whites also have injury concerns of their own, but being without the Czech Republic international is a blow given his influence at both ends of the pitch.
David Moyes is likely to name Rice and Kral in his starting XI, with Conor Coventry likely to be on the bench to provide cover.
Issa Diop and Craig Dawson have played at centre-back since Zouma got injured, but being able to call on the France international for weekend’s game would have been a massive boost.
Nevertheless, West Ham would fancy their chances against the struggling visitors in his absence, and a win should not be hard to come by.
Despite the injuries and Covid blows, the Hammers have the squad depth to keep going, but they need to further bolster their squad this month.
