West Ham don’t have the minerals for top four – talkSPORT presenter
West Ham have no chance of finishing in the top four this season, according to talkSPORT presenter Craig Mitch.
The Hammers are having an unbelievable season in the Premier League. David Moyes’ side currently sit fifth in the table after 29 matches played. They’re two points off fourth-placed Chelsea, and still have to play them at the London Stadium.
But Mitch doesn’t think West Ham will crack the Champions League places. Speaking with Jamie O’Hara and Darren Ambrose on talkSPORT on Friday [21.20 pm], he claimed the top four is out of the Hammers’ reach.
“For me, it’s Chelsea, Tottenham or Liverpool,” said Mitch.
“Look, if they finish fifth or sixth West Ham, that an unbelievable season for them. It’s unbelievable if they get a Europa League space.
“But I just don’t think they’ve got the minerals. They haven’t got the minerals for top four.
“Did you see the way they capitulated against Arsenal? It was terrible, I watched it. For me that summed up West Ham now – if you can’t hold onto a 3-0 win against a 10th or ninth placed Arsenal, the top four has got to be out of your reach.”
Don’t rule us out
Despite the performance on Sunday, don’t rule us out altogether. With 29 matches gone in the season, we’re sitting two points adrift, we’re not there by fluke.
It’s arrogant to rule us out completely. We still have some very favourable fixtures coming up, including the teams around us. Chelsea, Leicester and Everton all have to come to the London Stadium.
It’s turned into a bit of a fortress for us this campaign, and we’ll be confident having beat the Toffees and the Foxes on their own patches. Form goes out the window in a London derby – we’ll be well up for Chelsea. We beat them 3-2 last season in a huge clash at home.
We also face six sides in the bottom half of the table. Wolves next, followed by Newcastle, Burnley, Brighton, West Brom and Southampton. If anything, it’s in our hands completely.
Whatever happens, come full time on May 23, we’ll be beyond proud of the lads for their efforts this season. A European tour next season would be unreal though, so fingers crossed.
