West Ham done deal as gem finalises new London Stadium contract

West Ham United have confirmed that Josh Briggs has signed his first professional contract in East London.

The Hammers confirmed via their official website on Thursday (21 March) that Briggs had put pen to paper on his first professional contract earlier this month.

David Moyes’ side signed the 18-year-old from NIFL Premiership side Linfield in August 2022.

Briggs was born in North Belfast and after graduating from the Irish FA JD Academy, he has now committed his future to the London Stadium.

West Ham and David Moyes should be incredibly excited about Josh Briggs at the London Stadium

Some supporters might have heard very little about Briggs, but all they need to know is that this is an announcement which should excite them.

A Northern Ireland Under-19 international, Briggs made an impressive impact during his first season in England.

After signing for the club, the centre-back would go on to make 18 appearances across the 2022/23 campaign as the Hammers won both the FA Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League South.

Briggs made an impact in the final too, getting himself on the scoresheet in the 90th minute as West Ham beat Arsenal’s Under-18s 5-1 to lift the coveted trophy (25 April 2023).

Now a second-year scholar, Briggs has kicked on this season by making 14 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League South, getting himself on the scoresheet twice.

If he continues on this path, it won’t be long until the defender is lining up for David Moyes at the London Stadium.
