West Ham defenders Kurt Zouma and Ben Johnson doubtful v Lyon – report

West Ham defender Kurt Zouma will undergo a scan today (Monday) to check the extent of his ankle injury, according to a report from Claret and Hugh.

The central defender was forced off early in the first half against Brentford, with what looks like a twisted ankle.

The report claims that there is a 50-50 chance of his participation against Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday.

Another important player, Ben Johnson, could still be missing with a tight hamstring.

Fragile defence

West Ham are heading into the game against Lyon on Thursday where the preparation is far from ideal.

The Hammers drew the first leg 1-1 at home and need to win in France to secure a passage into the semi-finals of the Europa League.

The Hammers lost 2-0 in the Premier League against Brentford on Sunday and failed to take advantage in the top four race after Manchester United and Arsenal both had dropped points this week.

However, it is on the injury front that should concern Moyes.

Zouma is doubtful for the Lyon clash, and missing him will be a huge blow. Issa Diop has proved to be an able deputy when needed.

Aaron Cresswell will miss the game on Thursday after picking up a red card in the first leg. With Johnson also doubtful, Moyes could be forced to shuffle his pack at the back.

Arthur Masuaku can come in at left-back while Vladimir Coufal can be asked to play in that area with Ryan Fredericks starting on the right flank.

In other West Ham United news, Yaya Toure has said he would be open to helping this Irons star improve to the next level.
