West Ham dealt serious blow as fresh Edson Alvarez update emerges

West Ham United star Edson Alvarez is likely to miss pre-season, according to Fox Sports.

The American news outlet reported online (26 June) that the 26-year-old will be out of action for five to six weeks.

Alvarez has suffered a six-centimetre tear in the posterior thigh of his left leg.

The midfielder suffered the injury during Mexico’s Copa America clash with Jamaica on Sunday (23 June).

Julen Lopetegui to be without West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez until August

This will come as a frustrating blow to Julen Lopetegui.

While the Hammers are fortunate that this injury has occurred during the summer, it will still complicate the club’s pre-season preparations.

Alvarez is set to spend five to six weeks on the sidelines, meaning he will miss the entirety of Copa America with Mexico and probably won’t be fit again until mid-August.

While that does mean he might be available to start when the Premier League gets back underway, he might not be up to speed.

Lopetegui will look to introduce a new way of playing at the London Stadium and he would’ve been keen to use pre-season as a chance to get his players accustomed to his methods.

Alvarez will therefore have to play catch up, that is if he is still even with the club.
