West Ham could miss out on Jesse Lingard with Newcastle United in hunt
West Ham could miss out on Jesse Lingard in the January transfer window.
The Hammers have been heavily linked with a move for the Manchester United forward who impressed heavily for them last season on loan [Eurosport].
According to latest reports from Sky Sports, Newcastle United have made a fresh move for the England international.
The winger, who has a contract at the club till the end of the season, is interested in joining Newcastle and may favour a permanent move.
Lingard, who has been previously described as “phenomenal” by Adrian Durham, is impressed by Newcastle’s ability to attract players.
Alex Crook of talkSPORT claimed today (19 January) that Lingard would prefer a move to West Ham but the Hammers may not move for him now.
Lingard had a great opportunity to move to West Ham during the summer window but he was keen to resurrect his career at Old Trafford.
The plan didn’t work out for him, as he has struggled to make an impact this season, managing only a handful of appearances.
With his contract running down, the club will not stand in his way if he decides to move on.
It remains to be seen if West Ham make a late approach to sign Lingard this month, although the Red Devils may not be keen to sell the 29-year-old to the London club and strengthen their rivals.
It looks like he could be on his way to Tyneside.
