West Ham chief David Gold shares reaction to Europa League heroics
West Ham chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to share his instant reaction following the Irons’ 2-0 win against Sevilla in the Europa League round of 16 last night (March 18).
The Hammers historically cruised past Sevilla last night at the London Stadium to book their tie against French side Lyon in the next round.
It is the first time the club have been in a European quarter final for over 40 years; a proud moment for Gold.
He tweeted: “West Ham are through to a quarter-final in Europe for the first time in 41 years.
“A fantastic result for the Club. Proud moment.”
Surreal
It still hasn’t quite sunk in yet. This is the first time in many West Ham fans’ lifetimes that their club are in the quarter-final of a European competition and they are doing it in some style.
This isn’t the Europa Conference League, it’s the Europa League and David Moyes’ side have just beat one of the favourites and the most successful team in the competition’s illustrious history. How surreal is that?

The best thing about it is every single member of that squad deserves it. They haven’t been perfect all season but when they have been called upon when the going gets tough, they have come up trumps with Andriy Yarmolenko the perfect example of that.
If the Irons play their cards right, there is no reason they can’t go on to win the whole thing as they have already proven they can beat anyone on their day.
Up next is another tough tie in Lyon but there looks to be no stopping the Hammers at the minute.
