BT Sport pundit blown away by ‘sensational’ Michail Antonio in West Ham clash v AEK Larnaca

BT Sport pundit Clive Allen was blown away by Michail Antonio and his “sensational” second goal which put West Ham 2-0 up in their UEFA Europa Conference League clash v AEK Larnaca.

Antonio thumped home the Hammers’ second of the night after a lovely weighted pass was drilled towards him from West Ham captain Declan Rice.

Allen described the finish as “absolutely beautiful” as the out-of-form forward looks to get his season back on track in Cyrpus after the 2-0 victory.

“That is a sensational finish from Antonio, great work the three midfield players combined beautifully and Rice’s angled ball as Antonio makes the run is perfect for him to control,” said Allen live on BT Sport. (9 March)

“He composes himself but the finish is sensational.

“The keeper can’t see it, but it is absolutely beautifully finished by Antonio.”

West Ham

Love to see it.

Antonio was given the chance to shine by David Moyes on the European stage and boy did he make the most of it with a thunderous second goal against AEK Larnaca after putting the Hammers 1-0 with a cool-headed finish.

The Cyprus-based outfit obviously isn’t the greatest of opposition but scoring goals like this will only do Antonio’s confidence the world of good.

With Danny Ings and Gianluca Scamacca both vying for a starting spot up top in the West Ham XI, European moments of this kind will put Antonio right back in the picture.

Moyes may even look towards Antonio to start or at least play some part in the must-win Premier League clash against Aston Villa this weekend.

The Scots’ job will surely be on the line in this one and having a forward brimming with confidence after a European win will only help Moyes’ hopes of retaining his job for a little while longer.

Does this mean Antonio is about to hit a rich vein of form? Fans will be hoping so.
