West Ham boss Moyes opens up on ‘difficult’ January transfer window

West Ham boss David Moyes has opened up on the ‘difficult’ time the Hammers endured during the January transfer window.

Moyes was very keen on bringing in a backup option for lone striker Michail Antonio as well as a centre back to bolster the Irons ranks for the second half of the season [Football.London].

However, they made their move too late with three last ditch ‘record’ bids being rejected with West Ham not having enough time to seek out appropriate alternatives.

“I think there have been nine clubs in the January window who didn’t bring any players in. For some reason, it’s been a much more difficult January window than possibly others.” The Scot said in his pre-Kidderminster Harriers press conference.

“We wanted to add to the squad if we could do, but unfortunately we just couldn’t quite get them it over the line. We did [get close to deals] but for different reasons it didn’t quite happen.

“I’d never tell you my targets because that would be wrong, but what I do want to do is be ambitious here at West Ham, bring in good players and add to the really good squad we’ve got at the moment.

“Sometimes, getting things you actually want, you have to wait a little bit longer. I think it was quite obvious as nine clubs didn’t do any business in January.”

Calming tension

Moyes is clearly doing his best to calm down the rightly aggrieved West Ham fans after another January window with no signings.

It’s not as if signings are the be all and end all of success but strengthening the squad was absolutely vital for the remainder of the season.

As well known by now, the Irons are just a few injuries away from a crisis which could completely derail all of the hard work Moyes and the players have put in so far this campaign.

Moyes himself will most likely be very disappointed deep down that David Sullivan and co weren’t able to make any additions throughout the window as it now makes his job that much harder.

With that being said, this group of players are the ones who got the Hammers into the amazing position they are in and hopefully they can finish the job. Fingers crossed everybody stays fit and firing to give the team the best chance of reaching this season’s hugely ambitious yet very achievable targets.
