West Ham boss Graham Potter ‘riled’ by awkward moment with talkSPORT journalist

West Ham slumped to another home defeat on Saturday.

Graham Potter’s position as West Ham manager is now under severe pressure, with the club sitting third from bottom.

West Ham fans protested against David Sullivan before kick-off, with the atmosphere at the London Stadium turning vitriolic against the club’s hierarchy.

Potter has overseen a woeful start to the season, with the Hammers having lost all three home games against London rivals.

Graham Potter in ‘toxic’ environment at West Ham

Potter was interviewed after the game and appeared unnerved by some of the questions asked of him.

Speaking to talkSPORT broadcaster and reporter Ian ‘Moose’ Abrahams, the Englishman was short in his responses when asked about his future.

Abrahams: “Do you still think you’re the right man for the job?” Potter replied: “Yes.”

Abrahams: “Even though you’ve had a poor start to he season?” Potter replied again, saying: “Yes.”

Tony Cascarino reacted to this interview and Potter’s curt answers to the questions: “Moose is a brave man with that question, straight out the bat. That’s going to rile him immediately, obviously.”

Cascarino was also critical of the manner of the defeat for West Ham: “They’ve been beaten again in the same vein, which is conceding from a corner.

“But, the goals they conceded against Spurs were in a similar vein to the issues that were there the week before and the goals they conceded against Chelsea and yesterday, so nothing’s really changed.

So, Graham Potter is going to be under pressure. It’s toxic, you’re losing a lot of games.”

Wayne Rooney also highlighted West Ham’s defending against Crystal Palace and how poor it has been from set-pieces this season.

West Ham must replace Graham Potter

West Ham reportedly sounded out replacements for Potter, with Saturday’s result going to speed up the process.

Both West Ham and Potter need a change of scenery, and his departure would be best for both parties.

Graham Potter’s reign in charge has been a disaster

Since his appointment in January, the 50-year-old has struggled to inspire any sort of confidence in the team.

Sullivan must now realise the time to act is now and give supporters something to be optimistic about by getting the next appointment right.

Fans at the London Stadium have been frustrated for far too long, and a fresh face on the sidelines is exactly what’s needed.
