West Ham boss David Moyes fumes after 1-1 draw v Newcastle United

David Moyes was outraged after West Ham drew 1-1 to Newcastle United at the London Stadium yesterday afternoon (February 19).

Failing to win was hugely damaging for the Hammers’ Champions League push as they stay in fifth place behind Manchester United who have a game in hand.

Moyes backed his players’ commitment to the team but admitted their form must improve.

“I’m more miffed that we’ve not played well again,” Moyes told West Ham.

“I’m pulling my hair out that I just can’t get one or two players back at it, or closer than they are. So, we’re going to have to look closely to see what we can do about it.

When asked about his players’ attitudes, he replied: “There’s no questioning anybody [in that regard]. If anyone questioned any of our players on their effort or commitment, I’d back the players up 100 per cent…

“I thought that (a week’s rest would do us good) until we had it this week, we had a few days off.

“Didn’t work this week. So maybe we’re better getting back into games and playing every three days.”

Needs fixing

Wow. That game was unbelievably poor with West Ham looking as if they didn’t have a clue what to do with the ball.

It is very difficult to put your finger on it, but it just didn’t quite click yesterday and that could be credited to Newcastle.

They are on the best run they have been on all season, now unbeaten in four consecutive games, and they made it really hard for Moyes’ men.

With that being said, there should have been a lot more offered from some of the Irons stand out performers this season who essentially offered nothing.

They are allowed a bad game every now and then and the team’s form this season has been so good it is difficult to heavily criticise them after an underwhelming performance, but they can’t afford any more like that if they are serious about their top four aspirations.

It does show you how far West Ham have come with a draw feeling like a soul crushing loss in their pursuit of Champions League football.

In other Hammers news, Joe Cole can’t get enough of ‘unbelievable’ West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen.
