West Ham boss David Moyes feels ‘helpless’ with Andriy Yarmolenko
West Ham boss David Moyes has admitted he feels ‘helpless’ in supporting Andriy Yarmolenko amid the ongoing Ukraine crisis.
The Scot shared that the Ukraine international will not travel with the squad to Anfield for tomorrow’s (March 5) Premier League clash.
Moyes also said the club will do anything they can to help the winger during this “really difficult” situation.

He said in his pre-Liverpool press conference: “He has been training but he won’t travel to Liverpool with us. I don’t think he’s quite ready. We want to give him every opportunity with his family and his country.
“We can only give him our full support. We continually ask if there’s anything we can do. It’s a difficult situation. I spoke with him this morning. It’s really difficult because nobody’s been in these circumstances before.
“Coming into training sometimes makes things feel a bit better for him. We want to do everything we possibly can for him and his family.
“I feel helpless in as much as we as a country, not just me as a manager, feel like we can’t do enough. We’re all helpless really.”
Feel for him
You can’t help but feel for Yarmolenko during this time.
He will be worried sick thinking about the well-being of his family and closest friends that still remain in Ukraine.

Not only that, the future of his home nation is under threat which you can’t even imagine how difficult it is to come to terms with.
The club have handled the situation brilliantly, as expected. Even with West Ham’s late push to finish the season on a high, there are much more important things going on at the moment than football.
He surely wouldn’t be able to give his full attention to football given his current circumstances, so it is only right the club give him as much time off as he needs.
Hopefully, this situation is resolved as soon as possible for the safety and wellbeing of Ukraine and its citizens as well as everybody who has been affected by the conflict around the world.
