West Ham back in the race for Robin Olsen after Lille move collapsed
West Ham United are back in the race for AS Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen after Lille pulled out, according to Il Romanista.
The Ligue 1 champions want a new goalie after Mike Maignan moved to AC Milan, but have now distanced themselves from the Sweden international.
Olsen, 31, spent last season on loan at Everton and is still surplus to requirements at the Serie A side who recently signed Rui Patricio from Wolves.
Advantage West Ham?
The Hammers want a quality cover and competition for Lukasz Fabianski who is currently in the last 12 months of his contract at the London Stadium.
While we have been linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Alphonse Areola, things have gone quiet on West Ham’s pursuit of the former Fulham loanee of recent.
We need to bring in a new goalie as Darren Randolph has failed to impress during pre-season, and Olsen would be perfect.
He gave Jordan Pickford a run for the money while at Goodison Park last season, and manager David Moyes would appreciate such quality competition.
The Swede made 11 appearances under Carlo Ancelotti, including seven in the Premier League, and was impressive for his country at the European Championships, keeping clean sheets against Spain and Slovakia in four appearances.
Olsen was dubbed a “monster” by Marca [via Svenska Dagbladet] after shutting out Luis Enrique’s team, and he definitely would be a solid addition to our goalkeeping department.
With Lille pulling out, the Irons have been handed an advantage, and with a deal for Areola proving difficult, we should not hesitate to swoop.
