West Ham and Callum Wilson transfer development emerges today amid Newcastle United FFP worry

West Ham are set to drop their interest in Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson despite the Magpies’ worries with Financial Fair Play, according to The Irish Sun.

The newspaper reported via its website [28 January] that the Newcastle forward is thought to be available due to the club’s pressure from FFP.

It is understood that the Hammers were contemplating a move for Wilson but are now set to pull out of the race in order to prioritise the signing of a wide player.

Make it make sense

Considering David Moyes’ constant injury issues this season, with Michail Antonio, Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen all on the sidelines, it makes sense for West Ham to bring in a new striker this month.

Wilson has the potential to be one of the most clinical strikers in the Premier League, having scored 46 goals in 102 appearances at Newcastle since arriving from Bournemouth in September 2020.

However, the England international has his own struggles with injury, currently on the sidelines with a short-term calf issue. Although West Ham are calling out for a proper poacher, it does not make sense to buy the 31-year-old.

West Ham

Osman is an extremely raw talent, capable of deputising anywhere across the front line, which makes him an ideal replacement for Said Benrahma or Pablo Fornals, should either of them leave in the January window.

The player’s fluidity in attack will mean he is able to link up with Kudus and Bowen, who can both deputise at striker if needed. The latter has been playing as a striker recently and continuing his fine form in front of goal.
