West Ham ace Michail Antonio’s wife tested positive for Covid-19

West Ham striker Michail Antonio has not suffered from Covid-19, but his wife tested positive and he was forced to isolate for seven days, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Jamaican international hitman now has to return two negative tests between now and Sunday to have a chance of featuring against Southampton at the London Stadium.

C & H have also been told that at this point, there are no other covid problems in the squad as things stand, and David Moyes will be hoping that remains the case till Boxing Day.

Antonio was identified as a close contact with his spouse, and that made him go into isolation.

He will not be able to train until he proves that he has not been infected by the virus, and that means he will not be able to be in peak condition for the Saints clash.

Given his current form, West Ham could do without him in their starting XI right now, and having him unavailable could be a blessing in disguise.

More importantly, the fact that Moyes have his squad uninfected is a solid boost as that is the last thing they need right now.

They have won just two of their last seven games, and that is as a result of Antonio’s struggles in front of goal.

He has not contributed a goal in eight league games, and the Hammers need Andriy Yarmolenko or Jarrod Bowen to step up on Sunday.

Moyes clearly needs to bring in another quality striker in January, and failure to do so could see West Ham finish outside of the top-four and end 2021-22 without a trophy.
