West Ham ace Declan Rice wishes Matt Preston well after horror injury y’day
Soon after West Ham had laboured to a 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Saturday, Kidderminster Harriers’ game against Alfreton in the sixth tier was abandoned.
It wasn’t Storm Eunice that got the better of the game though, rather a very nasty ankle injury for Harriers skipper Matt Preston after just 10 minutes.
Preston was heroic in his defending against the Hammers in the FA Cup when David Moyes’ side narrowly scraped past the National League North outfit.
Declan Rice got the first of the two late goals that day and he has sent his good wishes to the Kidderminster captain via his personal Twitter account.
“Was incredible against us the other week, even better person off the pitch too. Wishing you a speedy recovery Matt,” Rice said.
The extent of Preston’s injury is still unknown as he undergoes scans at the local hospital.
The extra mile
The chances of Rice and Preston facing each other again on the football pitch are very slim if present at all so it could be easy to forget and move on.

But if we know anything about Rice, it’s that he always has time for good and this is just a snippet of that.
The 23-year-old went and visited the Harriers’ dressing room after their last gasp defeat to the Hammers at Aggborough [talkSPORT] and it is this kind of gesture that has seen him quickly become vice-captain at the London Stadium.
Any player can give their shirt away or briefly stop for a selfie and look like a hero but the very few that go the extra mile always shine brighter than the rest and Rice is one of those.
Moyes should put him on a pedestal for the rest of the Hammers’ squad to try and reach his level of human decency and that might even help the Irons go that extra mile on the pitch too.
In other West Ham news, Michael Owen thinks this Hammers’ player is ‘one of the best’ in the Premier League.
