West Ham ace Crysencio Summerville offered chance too good to turn down
Crysencio Summerville has the chance to fulfil every footballer’s dream.
West Ham have been enduring a nightmare season in the Premier League so far, with Summerville yet unable to evolve into a star player at the London Stadium.
Tony Cascarino described Summerville as West Ham’s best player in the Hammers’ 3-0 defeat to Wolves on 3 January, but the 24-year-old has only been able to contribute one assist in 16 league outings so far this term.
Summerville was blasted for his Fulham performance on 27 December too, on an afternoon where Nuno‘s side lost 1-0 and he was dragged off after just 56 minutes.
He’s also come in for criticism for off the field matters, with Summerville’s Instagram post after Brighton saw him share pictures of him and Albion’s Georginio Rutter captioned with ‘my brother’, after Rutter had just scored a late equaliser to deny West Ham three points on 7 December.
Crysencio Summerville handed World Cup opportunity
Therefore, it’s safe to say that Summerville hasn’t enjoyed a dream start to life as a West Ham player since his move to the club in the summer of 2024.
However, away from club football, the former Leeds man has been offered the chance to see one of every footballer’s biggest dreams come true this summer.
As revealed in a report from VI (Voetbal International), Suriname are hoping to convince Summerville to switch his international allegiance from the Netherlands to themselves, as they aim to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Suriname have already been able to convert Leeds striker Joel Piroe to their cause this week, and it’s stated that the 123rd-ranked team in the world now want to reunite him in their camp with his former Whites teammate.
What Suriname must do to qualify for World Cup
Should Summerville commit to Suriname’s cause, then it won’t mean he’s guaranteed a place at the World Cup straight away.
‘De Natio’ were beaten by Guatemala in their final qualifying match, allowing Panama to leapfrog them to top spot in the group and ensuring Suriname finished second.
- Suriname have never competed at a World Cup finals
- Should they qualify, they’d become the lowest-ranked team to ever make it (123rd)
- Summerville has been capped for the Netherlands at Under-21, 19, 18, 17 and 16 level, but never for the senior team
That now means they’ll take part in the inter-confederations play-off in March, with a semi-final game against Bolivia on the 26th.
If they beat them, then Suriname will play the winners of New Caledonia and Jamaica in the play-off final for a place in the World Cup.
