‘We have to do a lot better’ – Moyes wants more from West Ham despite win v West Brom
David Moyes was disappointed with West Ham after their 2-1 victory over West Brom on Tuesday night.
As quoted by BBC Sport, the Scot demanded more from his players despite this win being their third in a row in the Premier League.
Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio scored either side of Matheus Pereira’s long-range effort to see the Irons take all three points.
Moyes said: “I didn’t like the performance but I like the results. If you don’t play well but pick up points it’s a good sign, but we’re disappointed with how we played tonight.
“This is a resurgent West Brom who got a point at Liverpool and won at Wolves. It says a lot about us that we’re disappointed but still took three points.”
“We’re not settling for that and have to do a lot better.”
“We like to dream but we also want to be humble. West ham have been here a few times before and we could speak too much and promise too much so I don’t want to be in that position.
A new era for The Hammers
When David Moyes returned for his second spell in charge last season, he was met by frustration and outcry from West Ham fans.
Yes, he had steered us to safety once previously, but employing our former boss after the failure of Manuel Pellegrini felt like more than a few steps back.
What the Scot has managed to achieve in the past 13 months with this squad has been nothing short of remarkable, he’s installed a winning mentality to a club before considered a bit of a laughing stock.
Hearing your manager state that he is unhappy with the performance of his side, having just made it four wins out of four, is refreshing to hear.
When resigning, Moyes demanded a contract from the board that allowed him time to develop a squad fit for a top-half finish.
Signings such as Bowen, Thomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have bucked the trend of overpaying for PL has-beens, another testament to the manager.
He’s also gone a long way in putting some respect back on his name after his lacklustre spells with Manchester United, Sunderland and Real Sociedad.
The defeat of West Brom marked the halfway point of our season, with us sat on a healthy thirty-two points in seventh place. It’s our best ever return after 19 games.
