View: West Ham United have golden chance to sign Andrea Belotti on free transfer

If you are not living under the rock, you’re well aware of this open secret – West Ham need to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

They have been on the hunt for the past few windows, actually, but the situation is dire at the moment. They have to sign someone in the summer.

Based on widespread reports, David Moyes will be backed in the summer market, so, he will be looking to spend big on players.

But what if, there’s an opportunity to bring a quality player on a free transfer? Yes, it would be ideal.

Moyes has always said that he will not buy players for the sake of it.

Step up, Andrea Belotti.

According to a report from Italian newspaper La Stampa, Belotti is facing an uncertain next few days on his future.

He has a contract at the club till the end of the season, and chances are high that he will move on.

Torino have offered him a new deal at the club, and they want him to make a decision before Sunday (22 May).

West Ham are one of the clubs vying for his signature, and it’s high time the club get it done before other suitors move in. A player of his calibre on a free transfer? Oh, masterstroke!

For the record, Belotti has scored over 140 goals in his club career. He has managed over 110 for Torino alone and has represented his country, Italy, as well.

Known for his predator instinct, Belotti is a mobile striker who just scores for fun.

This season has been a dip in form for him, but in 2019-20, he finished the campaign with 22 goals. To do that with a mediocre Torino side isn’t a bad achievement.

With quality players around him, he would be lethal. At 28, he has the prime years ahead of him, and the Hammers should get his deal done.

West Ham can still add another striker, no harm, but they must not miss out on a player of this quality for free.
