West Ham may struggle to sign Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile in the summer transfer window.
The Hammers were interested in signing the highly-rated 20-year-old defender, with Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna claiming [10 January], the London club had made an approach for him.
According to latest reports from The Sun, it will take a fee in the region of £40million to land the youngster, with the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United also keen.

A potential deal for him didn’t materialise last month with the Hammers failing to sign a single player. It now seems very difficult to get him in the summer.
Signing a defender is important for the club, irrespective of Angelo Ogbonna’s situation, with Issa Diop very inconsistent and Craig Dawson not getting younger.
The price quoted by the French club is slightly over the odds, but he would be a superb signing for the club if the Hammers can secure a deal.
Blessed with raw pace, he has got fantastic passing abilities. He is good at pressing, winning battles in the air, and quite solid defensively as well.

The youngster has averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, and 2.2 clearances, per Who Scored, in nine Ligue 1 starts this season.
Moyes would love to have a player who has made over 60 passes on average per match, with an enviable 88.5% accuracy.
Needless to say, he would be an absolutely fantastic signing for the Hammers, but his price tag could be a big stumbling block.
