Veljko Paunovic says Reading will listen to offers for John Swift amid West Ham interest

Reading boss Veljko Paunovic has suggested that John Swift could leave the club in January, amid reported interest from West Ham.

Earlier this month, ExWHUemployee claimed that the Hammers are interested in bringing the midfielder to the London Stadium.

The Championship club are keen to keep their star player with them but they are also open to listening to offers if there are any.

“He is under contract and he is our player,” Paunovic said, as quoted by Reading Chronicle.

“We are in the transfer market, it’s open, so if an offer comes it will always be considered. We don’t want to lose him but this is also football and the club is in the situation that is – it has to consider everything.”

Unlikely

Reading are highly unlikely to sell their key player unless there’s a really good offer on the table.

The 26-year-old has a juicy contract with the Championship club and it will require a sizeable fee to lure him away from the club in January.

He has been in outstanding form this season, having managed eight goals and 11 assists in the Championship so far.

This has been an uninspiring transfer window for the Hammers, with the club failing to land a single player when they should have added a few to their ranks.

West Ham

Signing a midfielder is a priority for David Moyes especially with Mark Noble retiring at the end of the season.

The immediate need, however, is adding a striker and a central defender. However, the club has hardly shown any urgency to add depth in those areas.

Swift will probably consider his options in the summer, and a move away from the club looks difficult at the moment.
