Unai Emery shares Jacob Ramsey injury update for West Ham United showdown v Aston Villa
Unai Emery has revealed that Jacob Ramsey is a doubt for the Aston Villa game against West Ham on Sunday (17 March).
Speaking in his press conference on Wednesday (13 March, via John Townley), the Villa boss revealed that the 22-year-old won’t play in his side’s Europa Conference League match against Ajax on Thursday (14 March).
The Spaniard admitted he is hoping the foot injury the English attacking midfielder picked up against Luton Town on 2 March doesn’t keep him out for long and that they are going to wait and see how he is feeling ahead of the clash against the Hammers at the London Stadium.
“He is still not available, but hopefully not for a long time,” said Emery. “We are going to wait every day to see how he is feeling but he will not be available tomorrow.”
Jacob Ramsey injury could benefit West Ham
While no one likes to see players miss games through injury, it could be a bonus to West Ham if Ramsey isn’t able to play when the two sides go head-to-head.
The attacking midfielder is an extremely talented player and had just been getting back to his best before being struck down with his latest issue after missing the first half of the season through injury.
Villa are stretched at the moment as Emery’s side are going through an injury crisis, with midfielder Boubacar Kamara ruled out for the season and captain John McGinn set to miss the next three games after being sent off against Tottenham on 10 March.
That means Ramsey is someone who the Villans would like to call upon, but it’s going to be touch and go whether or not he can take to the field at the London Stadium.
Both sides could be feeling it by time the game comes around after their European ventures this week, with West Ham set to take on Freiburg for a place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
In other West Ham news, sources have claimed a Premier League manager is now in the frame to replace Moyes.
