Twist emerges in West Ham United transfer pursuit of Newcastle striker Callum Wilson amid Chelsea and Manchester United links
West Ham admire Newcastle striker and Arsenal and Chelsea target Callum Wilson but are unlikely to make a move for him in January, according to Jacob Steinberg.
The Guardian journalist reported on 25 January that the Hammers continue to monitor his situation but no imminent deal is planned.
West Ham are believed to be looking for a striker given Michail Antonio’s age and injury woes.
Via Twitter, Steinberg wrote: “West Ham moving for Callum Wilson is unlikely. They like him and monitoring the situation but nothing concrete at the moment.”
In the transfer blog on the website, he claims that Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all keen on signing the Englishman.
Worth considering
While Wilson is not a long-term solution, he can certainly be a short-term fix for the Hammers and has over 80 Premier League goals to prove it.
Despite interest from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea, Wilson could be a valuable short-term solution for West Ham, boasting a consistent goal-scoring record over the past four seasons.
Wilson’s ability to deliver nearly a goal every two games adds reliability to the Hammers’ attacking options.
However, potential challenges may arise in securing his signature, with competition from other top clubs.
The allure of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, along with their financial capabilities, could pose obstacles for West Ham in securing Wilson, making negotiations and the overall signing process more complex.
Despite these challenges, Wilson’s experience and goal-scoring prowess make him a pragmatic and effective addition to David Moyes’ squad.

The 31-year-old can even be used as an impact substitute and if he has a good last few months of the season, Gareth Southgate may consider calling him up as well.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made a better transfer offer than Barcelona for an international player in January as Tim Steidten gets the ball rolling.
