Troy Deeney reacts as Michail Antonio pens new West Ham deal

Jamaican striker Michail Antonio has taken to his personal Instagram account to react after putting pen to paper on a new deal at West Ham.

The 31-year-old signed a new contract until 2024, with the option of a further year, and Troy Deeney was one of those who reacted in the comments section, sending him his best wishes.

Antonio had just 18 months left on his previous deal, and he deserved the extension to remain at the London Stadium having scored 55 goals for the Hammers since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2015.

He said: “Delighted to extend my contract and continue the journey with this incredible team.”

Deeney reacted, saying: “Deserved bro. Keep achieving and believing.”

Antonio has been a very crucial player in West Ham’s rise up the Premier League over the last two seasons under David Moyes, and after establishing himself as one of the forces to reckon with in the squad, there is denying that he is worth better terms.

He is one of the reasons they are playing in Europe this season, and their chances of finishing 2021-22 in the top-four also depend on his form in front of goal.

The former right-back has been solid in front of goal, but the club need to start preparing for life without him.

He has two or three more seasons at the top of the game left in him, and Moyes knows he needs a long-term successor and cover.

Landing one before the January transfer window shuts will be massive without a doubt.

While Antonio has managed to stay fit so far this season, West Ham should not be playing him every game as he could do with some rest every now and then heading into the second half of the campaign.

However, getting a quality competition for him could prove herculean as not many strikers can play like him and fit into Moyes’ system.
