Trevor Sinclair reacts instantly to Tomas Soucek incident in West Ham United draw v Chelsea
Trevor Sinclair was absolutely baffled by VAR after they didn’t give Chelsea a penalty in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw with West Ham on Saturday.
The Hammers battled back after a tough start saw them fall 1-0 down and two other goals disallowed by VAR, before Emerson Palmieri netted an equaliser before half-time.
But with an even second half coming to a close, Conor Gallagher saw his shot blocked by Tomas Soucek’s in the box but despite a VAR check a penalty wasn’t given, leaving ex-talkSPORT pundit and former Irons midfielder Sinclair to praise him for his reflexes.
“Great save Soucek,” he said on his personal Twitter account (11 February), mocking the decision.
“But seriously VAR, what is going on?”
Lucky
There is no doubting that had that scenario been flipped on it’s head and Soucek had his shot blocked by Gallagher in the same manner, that we’d all be screaming bloody murder.
Soucek is falling to the ground but he sticks his arm out slightly and it should have been a penalty to Chelsea.
But on the balance of play a draw was definitely the fairest result, with neither side registering a shot on target in the second half, and it could be a sign that our fortunes are turning.
Considering the amount of poor decisions that have gone against us this season alone, getting one to fall our way is an achievement and that point is absolutely huge in our battle to move up the table.
Sinclair knows it was lucky, and most West Ham fans will know it too, but as they always tell us when it doesn’t go our way – these things balance out over a season. Remember that disallowed goal at the Bridge? This is karma.
