Trevor Sinclair questions Aaron Cresswell West Ham United future after red card v Frankfurt

Trevor Sinclair has questioned if Aaron Cresswell can be part of David Moyes’ defence at West Ham after another Europa League red card.

The left-back was sent off against Frankfurt for bringing down the forward as the last man for the second time in consecutive rounds, as the Hammers crashed out of the tournament in the semi-final.

Now Sinclair, talking on the talkSPORT breakfast show [May 6, 8:08am], believes that Moyes has a big decision to make on the future of the 32-year-old and that he could find himself bombed out of the squad now.

“Listen, you know, you either learn or, I mentioned earlier he did it against [Lyon], slightly different scenario but still he’s last man, you can’t be making the foul,” he said.

“He made the foul, this occasion he’s the last man again. There’s two things you can do. You can either accept he’s going to make mistakes every now and then, and you take that flaw.

“Or you feel that he can’t be last man in our defence, ever. He can’t be a defender for David Moyes then.”

Cresswell made a big mistake again, and it just so happened to be the same mistake he made not so long ago against Lyon.

But you can’t overlook all the amazing stuff he does for the team and the positive impact he has more often than not because of it.

Cresswell has been an excellent servant to the claret and blue, and Moyes relies on his experience and set-piece delivery to help the side while also his excellent defensive qualities to be solid.

More often than not Cresswell gets those incidents right and in this instance he didn’t. and it cost the team. But Moyes won’t be petty enough to bomb him out of the side because of it.

He still has plenty to offer the team and is more of a positive than a negative. If you ask fans, they would surely go with the option of just accepting his flaw and hope Moyes can find a way to avoid this scenario in the future.
