Tottenham v West Ham preview: Team news, head-to-head, where to watch, lineups, prediction

West Ham United will look to keep their unbeaten record in Premier League away fixtures intact when they visit Tottenham on Saturday, 19 October.

The Irons are sitting 12th in the table as they prepare to lock horns with Spurs, who are two points ahead of them in ninth place.

Preview

West Ham have made an underwhelming start to their season, winning just two of their seven league games so far and bowing out of the EFL Cup.

Interestingly, Julen Lopetegui’s side are unbeaten in away fixtures in the English top flight this term as they beat Crystal Palace and drew against Fulham and Brentford.

The aim for the Hammers will be to keep that record intact as they prepare for their fourth consecutive away trip to a fellow London club.

Tottenham’s start to the season has been far from ideal as well, with the club winning three of their opening seven league fixtures.

They were held to a draw by newcomers Leicester City in their opener and went on to suffer defeat against Arsenal and Newcastle United in September.

Spurs went into the international break after a devastating 3-2 loss against Brighton, who overturned a two-goal deficit to claim all three points.

The 31-year-old striker has not featured since playing in the 3-1 defeat against Manchester City on 31 August, but is “expected to be on or near the bench” (Sean Whetstone, 9 October) on Saturday.

It remains to be seen if players’ performances during the international break will influence Lopetegui’s team selection against Tottenham.

Konstantinos Mavropanos, for example, staked a claim for a starting lineup spot after impressing in Greece’s wins against England and Ireland.

The Irons are otherwise expected to remain unchanged, having named the same first XIs in their last two games against Ipswich and Brentford.

Tottenham, meanwhile, could receive a triple boost, with Richarlison, Son Heung-min and Wilson Odobert in contention to return.

Journalist Paul O Keefe reported via X (10 October) that Richarlison and Son are expected to take full part in training this week, with Odobert also edging closer to a return.

Having not played since August, Richarlison might be on the bench at best, but it looks like Son is set to replace Timo Werner on the left wing.

Predicted lineups

Tottenham: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke; Son

West Ham: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Emerson; Rodriguez, Bowen, Soucek, Paqueta, Kudus; Antonio

Where to watch?

The match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium kicks off at 12:30pm GMT on 19 October and will be live in the UK on TNT Sports 1, as well as Discovery+.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 West Ham

The Irons will be positive about taking at least a point from Tottenham, having remained unbeaten in away games and beaten Ipswich 4-1 last time out.

However, their poor defensive record (11 goals conceded in seven league games) gives Spurs, who have netted 14 times in as many games, an advantage.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will be determined to bounce back from their defeat against Brighton, with Son’s return boosting their chances further.
