Tories to keep close eye on West Ham United chief Daniel Kretinsky amid mega-money move
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has urged Conservative regulators to look into Daniel Kretinsky before the West Ham United owner is allowed to take over the Royal Mail, according to the Daily Mail.
Hunt has told regulators to look “very carefully” at the Hammers owner’s five year-takings before allowing him to take over.
He has ensured the public while talking on LBC that the Conservatives will make sure whoever takes over makes sure that “things that people depend on are safe”.
The chancellor has also backed the government to keep a potential deal “under review” just a day after IDS accepted a bid to purchase the Royal Mail.
West Ham owner Daniel Kretinsky makes Royal Mail move
The Hammers owner is looking to add the British institution to his business portfolio with him tabling a £3.6 billion bid to take over.
This deal has been bubbling under the surface for many weeks now and now appears to have taken a step closer to completion.
With Hunt’s comments, it is clear that this has ruffled a few feathers for the government despite a bid being agreed.
Kretinsky ranked 33rd on The Sunday Times Rich List (17 May) with an estimated net worth of £6bn so he has the funds to take this on.

There have been some concerns from Hammers fans that their owners’ attention has been turned primarily to the Royal Mail.
West Ham has people in place like Tim Steidten who has taken charge of transfers and the likes this summer.
Kretinsky has run many businesses alongside the club for many years and although this is a large institution which could impact his attention, there isn’t cause for concern yet.
