Tony Gale reacts as ‘disrespectful’ David Moyes update mooted at West Ham United
Tony Gale has reacted after it was confirmed David Moyes would be parting ways with West Ham at the end of the season, with Julen Lopetegui set to replace the Scot.
The Hammers confirmed the news via their official website [6 May], seeing the Scot’s four-and-a-half-year spell at the London Stadium come to an end after a season of immense pressure.
However, Fabrizio Romano had already revealed that the club had struck a deal with Julen Lopetegui to become the new manager, though no contracts had been signed at the time.
Asked if the treatment of Moyes was disrespectful, live via talkSPORT on Tuesday (7 May, 8:41am), the former West Ham star said: “A little bit. But I do think he’s going out now on the right note. I was at the Chelsea game and it looked like the players had downed their tools.
“You have to look at players rather than the manager sometimes, and I think they were really disappointing. They looked like they had chucked the season in. The fans, maybe half an hour before the end, were all gone.
“I just think he’s going out with a whimper, David. He doesn’t deserve that and I just hope the crowd on Saturday give him a standing ovation. He’s been top-drawer in the last four years or so.”
Does David Moyes deserve more respect ahead of West Ham United exit?
The majority of fans will definitely show their love and respect for the current West Ham boss as the side face Luton Town in their final home game of the season on Saturday 11 May.
Moyes has brought incredible memories to the London Stadium during his second spell in charge, having lifted the Europa Conference League trophy and regularly competing in Europe.
Despite this, football is a results-based sport and a very cut-throat one too. It would be an understatement to suggest some of the performances have been substandard this season, especially after the most recent 5-0 defeat to Chelsea.
A positive send-off at the London Stadium is the least Moyes deserves after four successful years in London, though he will probably feel disappointed with his treatment in recent weeks.

It is well-known that Moyes and Tim Steidten do not have the best relationship, which was emphasised when the latter was banned from the Hammers’ dressing room and training ground.
The drama seems to have come to a close now, with Lopetegui set to arrive at West Ham ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. The conversation surrounding Moyes’ treatment is likely to continue, though.
